Thanksgiving and Throw-up

November 19-25, 2012 (24 weeks pregnant)

My poor, sick little boy

Caleb has been sick :( He has also started walking backward and thinks he's pretty cool when he does it.

He frequently turns his bike on the side to spin the wheels.

On Tuesday I took Caleb to the doctor because he's been sick for the past week, pulling on his ears and stuff. While in the waiting room he played happily with all of the other sick kids. As soon as we went back into the room he started screaming. He remembered getting shots at his previous doctor's appointment and the flu shot last week and immediately started pointing to the door and crying. It turns out that he had a double ear infection. We got him started on his antibiotic right away so we wouldn't infect anyone at our Thanksgiving feast with the Parkers.

Wednesday we went to pick Allen up from Target (where his carpool meets) and went in while we were waiting. After walking through a lot of the store with Caleb walking up to all of the little kids to say hi and finding things to carry around (purses, little kid clothes, etc), we made our way back to the electronics. The TVs were playing Target ads with some catchy songs so Caleb started dancing along. Then football came on and he started grunting and making man noises, like he always does when he sees sports on TV. The other customers got a kick out of it.

Thursday was Thanksgiving! I woke up to a thud and went back to sleep, only to be awoken by the sound of a doorstop being played with about half an hour later. Caleb had climbed/fallen out of his crib and was just playing on the floor of his room. His hand is also now big enough that he can palm his sippy cup and drink it one-handed.

Around 3 pm, we loaded up our car with the dishes I had made and we headed to the Parkers for dinner. With my pregnancy-induced clumsiness, I managed to drop our pie on the street when trying to keep Caleb from being run over by a car driving by . . . luckily there was plenty of other food there that nobody was too sad. The food was delicious and I think I ate more than anyone else.

On Thursday and Friday, in addition to eating and being thankful, Allen and I spent a lot of time working on our bed frame, with the goal to finish it before he had to go back to work on Monday. He also put up Christmas lights and we did some more Christmas decorating that we had started while my mom was here.

Saturday ruined our plans of finishing the bed . . . thanks to our trip to the doctor's office on Tuesday, Caleb and I were sick! I broke my 17-year no throw-up streak and Caleb had it coming out both ends. We were soo sick. Allen was our super-nurse, doing laundry, giving baths, etc.

On Sunday Caleb and I were both still miserable but Allen had to go to church to play the piano for the choir number and teach Primary. It felt like he was gone forever!

November 12-18, 2012

Caleb had to get a flu shot this week and when we got back from the doctor he took his pants, diaper and bandaid off within about twenty seconds. Since then he has started to take his pants off all of the time.

He was playing with our little scarecrow, touching his eyes and nose, until I decided to take a picture. 

He has started to laugh when I discipline him, even when I use my sternest Mommy voice. So he will purposefully do things (like bang our lamp into the wall) to get me to discipline him... hopefully this is a phase.

He still loves mopping and sweeping.

Caleb found his nose and thinks it's funny to pick it. I'm surprised he doesn't hurt himself with how far he sticks his finger up his nostril! He has also started climbing all over the couch and perches himself on the armrests and back. I've had to run to catch him a few times.

He can also climb out of his high chair. Time to order some straps for it. 

This week I surprised Allen big time! He has been wanting an iPhone for a long time but has been patiently waiting because he didn't need it. I decided to surprise him with one. I had to change the contact info on our AT&T account to my email and phone number so he wouldn't get updates. I activated a credit card we haven't used in a long time and changed the info to my email and number so he wouldn't see the purchase. 

His iPhone 5 came this week and he loves it! I told him about it and I was at my Primary presidency meeting when it came on Tuesday night, but he played with while I was gone. It is an early Christmas present that I knew he'd be excited for since he's been waiting for so long to get one. 

Wednesday Allen started cub scouts. 

Not sure what this face is... he likes playing with the hundreds of soccer balls we have. He is entertained by trying to stack them on top of one another, even though it never really works.

In true boy fashion, if I stand in front of him while he's watching TV, he will just move his head to see around me, until I stand there long enough and he grunts for me to move out of the way.

This is how he eats apples: bites of chunks and spits them out.

Thursday night my mom came to visit until Saturday night. She was flying through Houston and made it a long layover. She brought with her a new wardrobe for Caleb that Jenni helped her pick out. We had a lot of fun playing with her, especially Caleb!

Maybe Caleb will end up being a planner like Mom. He likes to take my pen and pretend to write in my planner just like I do (he doesn't know how to take the lid off the pen yet).

First bloody lip (twice in one day)

November 5-11, 2012

Every day we dance to the piano's demo songs. It is one of Caleb's favorite things to do. 

Tuesday Allen had his exam in the morning and while he was gone Caleb and I were playing outside, when Caleb tripped and hit the curb hard with his face. He skinned up his nose and got a bloody lip. In an effort to stop the swelling, we came in and had some ice cream. I didn't have any Popsicles.

When Allen got back, we went to vote and then stopped at the park. Caleb was playing with Dad and was trying to push him down the slide, when he slipped off a step and bashed his face again. This time the bloody lip was on the left side and started to swell immediately. After crying for a minute or two, he wanted to go down the slide. He also went on the big kid swing by himself for the first time.

One of his favorite things at the park is a bridge that he runs back and forth over and over again. He also loves to climb up the tube slide.

Caleb likes to imitate Dad and plug cords into the computer to try to watch TV. 

My friend Michelle is having a baby boy in December so we had a baby shower for her. While I was trying to get pictures of everyone, someone told me I should come get a picture of Caleb. . . this is what I saw when I found him:

He had taken the bag full of extra chips and dumped it on the floor. 

And then started to smash them and spread them everywhere. Awesome. 

Caleb loves to carry bags around. Whether it's my bag or Allen's, it doesn't matter. 

Saturday I went with the Primary kids to the temple to walk on the grounds and meet with the temple president while Allen stayed home with napping Caleb and Sunday I taught sharing time for the first time!

October 29-November 4, 2012

This week Caleb said Daddy for the first time! And hasn't stopped saying it since. It melts Allen's heart every time. On Saturday Allen was sleeping in and Caleb wanted him to get up and play, so he grabbed Allen's shoes and brought them to him while he was in bed.

Caleb loves helping Allen get dressed for work in the morning. He really loves when Allen holds him while brushing his teeth and shaving!

This is Caleb's post-injury face. He's walking over to Mom for some love. This time was a bloody elbow.

It didn't take long before he was back to throwing the ball down the street and chasing after it.

I made this pumpkin outfit for Caleb while I was pregnant with him. He wore it his first Halloween and again this year. This is his "I'm so excited that Mom said we're going outside" face.

He has recently stopped smiling for the camera and is uninterested when I want to take pictures.

We only went to four houses, only one of which answered because we went trick-or-treating a little early. We started sleep training on Oct 16/17th and have been trying to be consistent with getting him to sleep on-time.

One of my friends just found out she's having a boy and asked if I wanted all of her little girl clothes... of course! So while I in between passing out Halloween candy I organized all of the clothes into sizes. I loved it! Allen was up studying for his exam.

After taking all of the clothes out of the washing machine he got distracted by the door stop. (Squirrel! He takes after his dad)

He loves the present Grandma and Grandpa Adams sent him for his birthday! His favorite part is the noise that it makes and he pushes the button over and over again.

Other than the usual stuff during the week I went to the cannery, got called to the Primary Presidency, started doing rehab a couple of times a week with a kid who is recovering from a sprained ankle and went to an awesome flea market. Allen has been studying like crazy in preparation for his exam next week. And Caleb has been growing and learning like crazy.
