Touch-a-Truck

February 18-24, 2013

Monday was President's Day so Allen had the day off work. It was also conveniently when I had my OB appointment, so I didn't have to take Caleb. But we like to spend time as a family and Allen wanted to hear her heartbeat, so we all went. I'm guessing it was just like most of my other visits, quick and simple, just the way we like them. And we all went to the hospital afterward to pre-register.

The rest of the week must have just been park and home because the planner is pretty empty! Saturday was Touch-a-Truck Day and we all had fun. We got there when it first started, which is what we will definitely do next year too! We got to park right next to everything and there were so few kids that we didn't have to wait in line to get on each of the trucks/cars.

He likes to pretend to be like dad and sits in his chair, typing on the calculator. And then he asks to spin around and around and around, over and over again.

Touch-a-Truck Day is one of the  many activities hosted by The Woodlands. Once a year they get garbage trucks, tractors, ICE (immigration control) truck, school bus, life flight helicopter, police cars, ambulances, fire trucks, etc all in one place for kids to climb in and look at. It's almost as much fun to watch how excited the dads are!

He was a little nervous about sitting by himself in the drivers' seat. That was surprising because of how much he loves to "drive" our car at home!

Valentine's Cookies and Rain

February 11-17, 2013

This week was rainy. I wrote that in my planner three days in a row. Maybe that's why we were doing dishes for fun. Caleb slipped at the park. It must have been a very exciting week when "rainy - slipped at park" are the notes I have, other than my to-do lists! Just kidding, we did more than just that.

We went to a park playgroup with friends on Friday and had some friends come help weed our yard on Saturday. I also cut back the rose bushes and the tree shoots that are worse than our weeds. Saturday morning the Parkers watched Caleb so Allen and I could go to the temple. We have been doing a lot of family history work so we wanted to hurry and do the baptisms and confirmations for about 25 of Allen's ancestors before I have the baby.

Saturday and Sunday were also Stake Conference so I went to the Saturday night session by myself and got to just enjoy it. Sunday morning session was good but right during naptime and Caleb was tired!

This week I was determined to do something about Caleb's napping problem: make blackout curtains. Armed with a few online tutorials, some cheap Walmart sheets and black-out backing, I created my own curtains. I'm pleased to announce that although they are not beautiful, they work perfectly! Caleb fell asleep for naps easier and napped longer - hallelujah!

We kept our Valentine's tradition and did jumbo crab legs, asparagus and red potatoes for dinner at home. Delicious! And in keeping with the Perkins' family tradition, we decorated sugar cookies.

He helped make sugar cookies by pushing the flour and sugar around the kitchen.

I don't think we decorated cookies until after Caleb was in bed. But he liked helping eat the cookie dough and lick the frosting beaters again. I am pretty sure I ate his whole cookie since he didn't like it.

Corn for breakfast. He chose it over a sugar cookie. Whose kid is this?!

I can't believe I didn't decorate one for Leila. Can you tell which one Allen did?

February 4-10, 2013 16 Months and 35 Weeks

Monday I had another doctor's visit for 35 weeks and everything looks/sounds good. Caleb is a great sport about coming with me and being patient. He likes the fish in the waiting room and when he gets to watch Baby Einstein when the doctor comes in.

Tuesday Caleb and I went to a baby shower when he was supposed to be taking a nap. He was tired and not wanting to be there and when he did go play with the other kids without me (I'm trying to let him play a little more on his own), he got knocked over and hit his head hard. Poor baby was sobbing, so we left early and let him nap.

On cold or wet mornings we play in the car and Caleb puts the sun visor up and down, turns on the hazards, pushes all the buttons in the dash, turns music up really loud and sometimes honks the horn. We get out if he honks more than once.

Still attached to his binky and I won't try to break him of it until sometime after the baby comes.

It's amazing! And now I have extra fabric to do even more projects with!

He loves going high in the swing and is usually content to be pushed in the swing or run laps around the park and rarely plays on the slides and other equipment.

I think we went to Pei Wei to celebrate Chinese New Year.

He asks for more toothpaste a lot. He brushes the mirror in addition to his teeth.

If I start eating an apple while we walk to the park when Caleb sees it he wants to gnaw on it. He will eventually eat almost the whole apple and swing contentedly for half an hour as he does so.

 Caleb loves looking for airplanes and has great ears; he usually hears them before me and finds them first sometimes too.
