Cracked Open Head and Weigh-ins

April 1-7, 2013
I wanted a picture of Caleb playing with his tractor and when he saw I was taking a picture he immediately laid down on the ground to pose for me. Not sure why he thinks he needs to lay down to have his picture taken.

Leila always tilts her head back.
Monday I had to go see Dr. Syal, I'm just fine. It was pretty exhausting dragging both kids along with me. The recovery after having a baby is not fun; it doesn't take much to drain all of your energy!
Caleb still loves to do Easter egg hunts. I just toss them around the floor and he walks around finding them and then asks to do it again.

Tuesday was Allen's 29th birthday! We had gone to Pappadeaux the previous week as a combined celebration of our birthdays and I don't think I did anything for him . . . oh, I made him meatballs for dinner, which is one of his favorites.

Wednesday was Leila's two week appointment. 7 lb 5 oz - she is still not back to her birthweight and was only gaining half of what she should per week. So, as per doctor's orders, we began weighing Leila every week at the hospital's lactation center to make sure she kept gaining.

Thursday we played at the park and Caleb split his brow open. We were playing at the park in the beautiful weather.
Leila fell was sleeping in the stroller.
Caleb was playing with the water fountain, filling up the doggie drinking bowl.
He slipped on the water and hit his face on the faucet.
It gushed blood. I applied pressure and gave some loves and of course took a picture of the wound. Then we had to hurry home to leave to pick Dad up from his carpool. We stopped at Walgreens on the way home to pick up some steri-strips.
Cleaned it up in the bath. It doesn't look as deep as it really was but it wouldn't stay closed on its own.
And here he is with it closed up. Thanks again to my background as an athletic trainer, we were able to avoid a trip to the doctor.  The steri-strips held it closed and it healed nicely. I've seen several athletes get stitches for a cut that like but I did not want a traumatic experience at the doctor's office. There's a ruggedly handsome scar in his eyebrow now and I'm sure he won't mind when he's older.

Reading one of his favorite books: Dr Seuss's ABCs
Friday I took the kids to the hospital to weigh Leila. Caleb liked looking at the fish. Everyone who saw us said, "You've sure got your hands full," leaving me unsure how to respond.
I'm terrible at taking pictures in the mirror and feel dumb showing them to anyone. I just wanted to show little Leila in the front pack, where she spent a lot of time her first couple months of life.
Here's her close-up.
Taking a picture of Caleb in action, playing with his flashlight.
And he lays down again!
Seeing the Ensign in the picture reminded me that Caleb loves reading and would flip through the Ensign (church magazine, targeted at adults with very few pictures/fun stories for kids) over and over. He would ask me to read to him and he would point out letters on the pages and would "read" on his own.

Saturday and Sunday was our church's General Conference so instead of church on Sunday, there are five sessions where we listen to leaders' talks online. I don't know if we did anything else that weekend...
