Immunology

November 4-10, 2013

Allen took the MLC exam on Tuesday but we have to wait for a few weeks to find out the results.

Tuesday at OT, Leila weighed in at 6.45 kg (14 lb 3.2 oz)! She is getting closer to doubling her birth weight! Yay! Just one pound away! (Note from the future: it took her an additional four months to gain that pound)

Thursday we headed downtown for Leila's immunology appointment at 6:15 am. We got there, checked in and were seen fairly quickly. They were impressed that she hadn't been sick much and had already handled her flu vaccine without issues. We were then sent to get bloodwork done downstairs since the immunology staff was going to be busy with another patient's blood transfusion.

The phlebotomists spent over an hour poking, prodding, heating, poking some more, wiggling needles around in her arm, only to give up after not getting enough blood for even one of the tests ordered and said we'd need to come back downtown to get her blood drawn another time. I was frustrated that nobody could draw Leila's blood! This was a children's hospital and they were blood drawing professionals! It broke my heart to have to keep pinning her down and have her look at me with tear-filled eyes that said, "Why are you letting them do this to me?!" We went back upstairs and the staff in the immunology office drew the blood within ten minutes.
Both of our kids love to brush their teeth!

Caleb the trendsetter - one shoe with the shirt over the head
My little helper unloading the silverware.
He can't quite see where they go yet, but he's willing to help!
He's getting pretty coordinated at playground stuff and getting more confident to try on his own.
She is getting stronger and can reach for things while sitting up now.
Caleb is fascinated by everything on our walks. We stop to look at bugs, dew, leaves, berries, etc.
